Circling The Drain

A few weeks ago, I was complaining about TNT's show "HawthoRNe" changing things so drastically between seasons, making it tougher to catch up. After watching the last few episodes, I've decided that won't be a problem next year. There is no way in hell that this show should be renewed.

Sadly, I'll probably keep watching until the season ends, unless I find something better to watch on Tuesday nights.

Show, why do you do this to me?

Jada Pinkett Smith's show "HawthoRNe" returned tonight for the start of its third season. I liked show initially, but I just have too many nitpicks this time around.

I should have been drinking for this one. Tired, so hopefully this makes sense. )

Why not a meme?

Grabbed from [livejournal.com profile] rap541, who is much nicer than she claims to be.

Post a comment, and I will reply with one or two reasons why I think you're great. In return, you have to post this same meme on your blog and comment for other people.

You too, lurkers.

Looking for prompts

I'm doing [info]mini_nanowrimo again this year. Two years ago, I had a blast with it. Last year was a lot tougher.

This time around, I'm going to be traveling for the first half of the month, so it's going to be tougher to find down-time to write. So, to keep me motivated, I'm asking for drabble prompts. Give me a fandom, a character, a pairing or a situation and I'll try to deliver a drabble. My fandoms are listed in my profile or you can ask for something with any of my RP characters.

Since this one is going around

RP Meme, stolen from I don't know how many people.

Pick one or more of my characters and one or more of yours, and I'll tell you something they've always wanted to say to your character but could never bring themselves to say out loud.

Birthday Meme

Done it before, but I saw [info]alpinemaps do it a few weeks ago, and it seemed appropriate do this on my birthday.

Look up your birthday in Wikipedia. Pick 4 events, 3 births, 2 deaths, and 1 holiday.

Since I'm Seeing This One Everywhere Today

Snagged from OMG-I-Lost-Track-How-Many-People:

Give me a "Fandom" (Book/TV/Comic series, Movie, etc), and I'll kick back
1. My favorite character (and why)
2. My favorite 'bit' (issue, scene, episode, whatever is applicable)
3. Why I like it.
4. What problems I have with it.
5. Who I'd most likely RP from it (excluding character from #1)

And please make it something that I actually know. *looks at you-know-who*

Moose Droppings

Muhsin Muhammad took a shot at the Bears, telling Sports Illustrated that Chicago is "where receivers go to die" and bashing both Kyle and Rex for their performance. Kyle was classy enough to just say, "No comment." I thought he came off better than Rex, who gave a long comment on how he doesn't listen and he's hearing it for the first time and has no comment. Rex just thinks to much.

Tank Johnson also made some stupid comments about Rex, but I can dismiss that because Tank was too stupid to keep his job with the Bears. I understand that Moose was ticked off about being cut by the Bears, but he was also a team captain. For him to come out and say that about his former team is horrible. I shouldn't be surprised, because he was also photographed getting into a verbal confrontation on the sidelines with Kyle, with Olin Kreutz having to step in and shield Kyle from Moose's anger.

All I have to say is that if Moose hadn't dropped so many passes, then maybe he'd still be in Chicago.

Oh, and just as a reminder that Kyle and Moose used to be friends off the field:

I am going to apologize in advance to the people on my flist that are not football fans. Football season is starting, and Kyle Orton has a shot at starting for the Bears this year. I absolutely adore Kyle, despite the neckbeard. There is a strong possibility of me going wacky with excessive posts about the Bears, Kyle's neckbeard, or both.

The beard didn't look as ugly as usual tonight. Unfortunately, I forgot they were playing tonight and tuned in after Kyle finished taking his alloted snaps. That's fine, because if Kyle gets to be the starter this year, I'll get to see plenty of him. And if Rex Grossman gets picked as the starter, we'll see Kyle by mid-season.

If you've never been to Star Trek: The Experience but have always wanted to check it out, you have a couple of months left. It's closing in September.

Sad news

Don S. Davis passed away.

I've already seen it mentioned on my flist a few times, but I just found the confirmation from Gateworld. I was really hoping it was a mistake.

This was important to me

I noticed something new added to the Wikipedia entry for Eight Belles:

Eight Belles is scheduled to be buried at Churchill Downs' Kentucky Derby Museum, and a race has been renamed in her honor, and will run on Derby Day 2009

This is pretty much what I was hoping for from the moment that Churchill Downs offered to let them bury Eight Belles at the race track. I wanted to see them do something like how Go For Wand was buried in the infield at Saratoga. Eight Belles is going to be laid to rest near four previous Derby winners, which is fitting. I've visited the museum before and it's a pretty unforgettable experience.

Incidentally, while the museum has the final resting place of several horses, there will be only one horse buried on the grounds of Churchill Downs. Barbaro's owners initially had him cremated with plans to leave his ashes at their farm, but instead worked with Churchill Downs officials to create a memorial site at the track itself. They already had plans to dedicate the Barbaro memorial in 2009, with the internment on hold until they put up a statue at the site. The memorial will be outside of the main gate of the track, meaning that it will be accessible to the public.

Random stuff

I meant to say this last night and I forgot. Thank you so much to everyone hugs, positive thoughts, good wishes, OMG comments, and everything else. It's really helped me get through the last couple days knowing that I had a place to vent.

The Fedcon Frak-Up still continues to amuse me (and believe me, I needed the amusement). If you haven't seen it yet, check out the limited edition "I got FRAKKED at FDEDCONUSA" t-shirt being sold by a vendor who got screwed at the con. Vadercast also managed to get video of the con being canceled. It took a long time to load and I was watching at 1 AM, but it's worth checking. You see people ask about refunds and the con organizers don't have a clue while John Billingsley, who was in the middle of his Q&A session when the cancellation happened, totally taking these people to task.

More FedCon Frak-up Feedback

One of the FedCon USA attendees who was at the Paul McGillion surprise phone call party told me that she spent about $900 altogether on this convention, including con tickets, airfare, cancellation fees, hotel, food, and parking. She said she also spent $200 to get an earlier return flight when the convention went bust, and she probably won't be able to afford a convention again for a very long time. At best, all she can recover are the cost of her tickets if FedCon USA makes good on their promise to issue refunds.

I feel bad for the people who went to FedCon USA. But really, I'm also laughing my ass off as I catch up on this whole mess. Seriously, I can't believe people trusted Tim Brazeal to run this thing with his record.

And I've got a ton of respect for J.G. Hertzler (Martok) and Robert O'Reilly (Gowron), who were half-way through their Klingon make-up when word came that the organizers were pulling the plug on the convention. They went ahead with their own show for the fans anyway! Reportedly, a group of Carson Beckett fans got together for impromptu party after the cancellation and Paul McGillion actually called them. And every account I've read so far has said something about how John Billingsley took the lead in making sure that people who paid to attend this convention got their questions answered after things were abruptly brought to a halt after John's Q&A.

ETA: It looks like Fandom Wank has already picked up on the FedCon disaster.

Um, [info]rap541?

That wasn't the end of BSG, was it?

In other news, I was going for a Hulk/Iron Man double feature. Unfortunately, I forgot to read the details on my free movie pass, which states that you can't redeem a free ticket for a movie on opening weekend. But Iron Man was good, and I look forward to seeing the Hulk on another non-weekend day.

Well, that was fast!

Cedric Benson has been waived by the Chicago Bears. Considering he never performed at the level expected of a first-round draft pick, they were probably looking for any excuse to drop him and two alcohol-related arrests did the trick.

I am a little pissed that I missed the fan convention this weekend, but that was my fault for not paying better attention to the dates so I missed my chance to get my tickets. Still, Cedric's timing of getting arrested this weekend would have made for something interesting fan discussions.
